Flatbed Demand Shows Signs of Easing
Jul 1 – 7 – Freight rates reached record heights at the end of June, only to skyrocket even higher during the July 4th holiday week. The national average van rate rose to a new record of $2.45 per mile, and the national reefer rate jumped to $2.77 per mile. The national flatbed rate held steady at $2.82 per mile, but the flatbed load-to-truck ratio declined for the fourth week in a row. Load-to-truck ratios declined for vans and reefers, as well, due partly to holiday vacation schedules.
