Truck availability keeps pressure off prices
April 1 – 7 – Spot market capacity continued to outpace truckload demand last week, as evidenced by falling load-to-truck ratios for each trailer type. Freight volumes actually rose, compared to a year ago, but the availability of trucks has kept the monthly national average rates for vans and reefers mostly in neutral. Flatbed rates have climbed in April.
Trendlines shows a weekly snapshot of the month-to-date for national average rates from DAT RateView. National average spot market rates for the past four months, including fuel surcharges, are shown in the three graphs, above.
