Capacity Tightens Ahead of Memorial Day Weekend

Spot Rates Rise Out of Major Markets

May 20 – 26 – Many small carriers and owner-operators adjusted their schedules last week to be home in time for the long holiday weekend. That led to tighter capacity for dry van and reefer freight and pushed rates higher out of many major markets. The national average van rate held steady, while the national reefer rate was up 2¢ per mile and the national flatbed rate rate hit another record, rising 1¢ to $2.73 per mile.
