Capacity rebounds after Road check

National Spot Rates: Van, Flatbed, Reefer

Ratios fall but national rates hold steady

Jun 10 – 16 – Trucks returned to the highways last week after the annual Roadcheck inspection blitz put a squeeze on capacity in the previous week. That pushed load-to-truck ratios lower for each trailer type, and many lanes that saw major rate increases during Roadcheck had declines last week. Still, national average rates for vans and reefers remain the highest they’ve been since January.

Van and reefer rates get summertime boost

May 20 – 26 – Summer is here unofficially, and the truckload spot market finally started to heat up last week. Load-to-truck ratios rose for van and reefer freight heading into Memorial Day weekend, which contributed to higher rates on many major lanes. Meanwhile, flatbed demand continued to soften.
